Information for Pharmacists
From October 1st 2023 EHC is now avail all patients with no upper age limit.
Pharmacists have to be accredited in prescribing EHC by attending an online training session and have to be SAVVY registered at level 1.
The Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) Patient Group Direction documents (PGD), along with other relevant EHC documents, can be found below.

NEW EHC Service from April 2025 PLEASE ACTION BY 31st JANUARY 2025
Happy New Year to you all.
As you will be aware Cornwall Council recently tried to implement a tender process for the new EHC service from April which sees increased fees vs this year after your LPC renegotiated what we think is a good offering.
After we pushed back against the tender process before Christmas we are pleased that we have negotiated an opt in to the new EHC service rather than the lengthy tender process that was being asked.
Please therefore see the below email from Cornwall Council regarding signing up to deliver the new service. Please ensure you respond by 31st January 2025 to ensure you can deliver after April 2025.
Dear Provider,
Thank you for your interest in continuing to deliver Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC), services and your ongoing patience during the tender process.
Public Health have heard your concerns about this process, and have worked hard with our commercial services team in order to make this a more straightforward system. Therefore, we will no longer be moving forward with the original tender and are instead looking to directly contract with the stores that wish to continue (or start providing) EHC services.
Attached are the terms and conditions, service specification and PGD’s for the service. If you are happy with these, and want to “sign up” to the service, please reply to PHCommissioning@cornwall.gov.uk with the following information:
- List of all current store location/s (1st line of Address is acceptable, so we can cross-reference our records)
- Who has delegated authority to sign the contract (signatories)
We will then organise a contract to be drafted and sent to you ASAP.
Please respond by no later than the 31st of January 2025, as we need to allow sufficient time to complete contracts etc.
